Group activities centred on emotions help children recognize and understand their own feelings as well as those of others. This increased emotional literacy allows them to better identify and articulate what they are experiencing.
Working in groups fosters empathy as children listen to and understand the feelings and perspectives of their peers. This helps them develop compassion and the ability to relate to others.
Group work requires cooperation, communication, and problem-solving. These interactions enhance children’s social skills, teaching them how to interact positively with others, resolve conflicts, and build friendships.
Emotion-focused groups provide a supportive environment where children feel safe to express their feelings without judgment. This can be particularly beneficial for children who struggle with emotional regulation.
Successfully expressing and managing emotions in a group setting can boost a child's self-esteem. Positive feedback from peers and facilitators reinforces their sense of competence and self-worth.
Children often learn effectively from observing and interacting with their peers. In a group, they can see how others manage emotions and apply those strategies to their own lives.
