Provided on a 1-to-1 basis over the course of 12 weeks, through 30-minute sessions. Children can draw creatively and freely to what they wish while being encouraged to talk about what they have drawn through story telling. It enables the child to process emotions they are internalising, whilst in a safe space.
Drawing allows children to express feelings and thoughts that they may not have the words for. Through images, they can convey complex emotions like fear, sadness, or anger in a way that feels safe and non-threatening
For children who have experienced trauma, drawing can be a way to externalize and process those experiences. Talking about the drawings helps them make sense of what happened and begin to heal.
Drawing provides a non-verbal way for children to communicate, which can be especially beneficial for those who have difficulty expressing themselves with words. As they discuss their drawings, they also practice verbalizing thoughts and emotions, improving their communication skills over time.
The act of drawing can be calming and soothing, helping children to relax and reduce anxiety. Talking about their drawings can further alleviate stress by allowing them to release pent-up emotions in a controlled way.
Through their drawings, children can reveal internal or external conflicts that might be troubling them. Discussing these conflicts with a practitioner can lead to problem-solving and conflict resolution strategies.
Sand play encourages creative thinking and imagination, as children can create endless scenarios and stories in the sand. This creative outlet can be especially valuable for children who might struggle with verbal expression.
